I've traveled all of these roads many times in the last few years. Obviously, this is a longer route and slower travels, but much more interesting scenery through the hills and valleys of the region. If, however, you want to see the more interesting terrain of the Black Hills (and the small tourist towns there or possibly Mt Rushmore), then you'll continue on Hwy 385 and most likely pick up US Hwy 16 north of Custer and head to RC. This is an easy route of rolling hills with a recently upgraded to mostly 4-lane highway and it avoids the Custer State Park and circuitous route of 385 and/or the roads through the Black Hills Nat'l Forest. If you want the most direct route to RC, then you'll continue North on SD Hwy 79 which is approx 5 miles before you reach Hot Springs SD. but you have a choice to make a few miles before you reach this point. In Bridgeport, Hwy 385 continues North to Alliance NE, and then continues North to Chadron NE.įrom Chadron NE, US Hwy 385 continues north past the exit to Hot Springs SD. This will dead end at Hwy 92/385, and you'll turn left to Bridgeport NE (6 miles away). Hwy 113 takes you north to Sidney NE (worth a stop at Cabela's HQ store, if you're into that).įrom Sidney, take US Hwy 385 (the East Exit off of I-80, near Cabela's) and head North. Head North on I-76 to Sterling, CO, and go through town (it's a short distance) to pick up US 138 North to Colorado Hwy 113. If you're seeking the easiest way to RC from Denver, I'd suggest taking Pena Blvd to I-70 Eastbound to 270 North to connect to I-76.
